Imaging®: doses investigation

The analysis of the Imaging component renders unique filter patterns that provide qualitative information about the conditions during exposure. Imaging to identify static, dynamic, or contamination conditions is automatically performed for all beta and low-energy photon measurements yielding a dose in excess of 5 mSv. Imaging capabilities are inconclusive at energies exceeding 150 keV.

LANDAUER Inc. has developed a system called Imaging. This device makes it possible to determine the exposure conditions of a dosimeter: static, dynamic, or resulting from an abnormal exposure—such as the presence of shielding or the deposition of a radioactive droplet.

The Imaging system is part of an optimization approach to radiation protection principles. It provides added value in dosimetry monitoring, particularly for workers.

Imaging is not available for doses less than 5 mSv.

A static exposure image indicates the dosemeter was still with no movement at the time of exposure. This is verified by the distinct grid patterns in the filter pack imaging area. A static exposure implies that the dosemeter may not have been worn at the time of exposure, and an accidental exposure may have occurred.

A dynamic exposure image indicates the dosemeter was moving at the time of exposure. This is verified by the blurred grid patterns in the filter pack imaging area. A dynamic exposure implies that the dosemeter was worn at the time of exposure, and the reported dose is valid.
